Capitalism at its finest

Employer responds in two minutes over productivity issues but let a man lay on the ground for 20 minutes before responding leading to his death - then telling the other employees to get back to work

Im part of the problem as i still use amazon prime :o

In September, Billy Foister, a 48-year-old Amazon warehouse worker, died after a heart attack at work. According to his brother, an Amazon human resources representative informed him at the hospital that Billy had lain on the floor for 20 minutes before receiving treatment from Amazon’s internal safety responders.

“How can you not see a 6ft 3in man laying on the ground and not help him within 20 minutes? A couple of days before, he put the wrong product in the wrong bin and within two minutes management saw it on camera and came down to talk to him about it,” Edward Foister said.

The PR response was pathetic, ...lets run some numbers and make the tragedy look minor.

Was this guy in an empty warehouse? I've worked in a freezer warehouse, and while the supervisors/managers NEVER went in there (too cold) unless belts stopped moving, the grumpy warehouse guys still wouldn't stand by with someone on the ground for minutes on end.

Let's also not forget that Amazon pays $0,00 in taxes, obviously because they contribute so much to the community.

Ever wonder what a welfare queen looks like? Google Jeff Bezos.

Amazon would be prosecuted for crimes against humanity if they ran their warehouses in Europe the way they do in the US.

Other companies are even more extreme but at least some of them pay at least $20 dollars an hour and up to 25-30 with overtime but you get worked like a dog and no union and no good work culture.

This makes me so upset that i'm going to sit down and come up with an automated conveyor that picks packages rather than people. o wait we did that 10 years ago and amazon only neglects to adopt them so they can continue paying shitty pay to overworked employees so they can tout their employment numbers.

for real tho, these people won't be in work for much longer. amazon can only take so many of these PR disasters before they fully automate their sorting and retrieval. these people are already grabbing packages labeled by a machine, packed by a robot, and delivering it to a robotic sorter. they're the last bit of humanity in these sorting centers and their days are numbered. As amazon transitions from full MRD to ARB technology, all the while putting the cost on the american tax payer through R&D deductions, people will lose jobs.

AOC was right (give me a second to choke that down) about amazon bringing bad jobs. she just failed to realize how much in sales tax they'd bring to use on social projects. you dont want amazon for jobs, you dont want them for end of year taxes, you want them for sales tax.

Uh, but as far as I remember, Amazon wanted to open a new HQ in her district, not a warehouse where there will only be shitty jobs.
Anyway, companies like Amazon will need to pay more in taxes or our economy will crumble. Neither the delivery infrastructure nor the customers can be outsourced, and the American market is just too big to give up on, so against a dedicated government, they wont be able to escape a tax raise.

I remember i had to use that some decades ago while going in "strategical" servers area. I think you have the point: they spend so much in development to monitor workers, but seems nothing to check if some accident occurred, dramatic. I really Hope EU will have the strength to regulate and tax to them to... death.

i thought the new plant was supposed to include a corporate HQ and sorting facility, but that was just in my head.

they will indeed need to get a tax raise at some point, as will all companies as they automate away their own profits. but that breakpoint wont come for a while. amazon is ahead of the curve in automation, so they'll just benefit from a larger share of the profits ahead of competition. companies with a more analog process will eventually get squeezed out of the market altogether, which is starting, and that's when amazon will need to get taxed more and UBI of some kind will be necessary for them to create their own consumers.

That crappy warehouse freezer actually had alarm systems in place to prevent people from freezing to death unlike top tech Amazon.

I think a fair compromise to Amazon not paying taxes is that all of their proprietary IP gets opened up, opened sourced. Bezos would flip
