It will be instructive to look at the case curve of the UK in this regard. When it comes to the Omicron-wave, they're ahead of all other Western countries by at least 1-2 weeks... and their curve seems to be leveling off right now. If their cases stay at roughly the current level for another week, the wave is not over and they've just hit capacity on their testing system. If, however, cases keep trending downward, then their wave will have peaked 4 weeks after its start, which would be plausible since it also took South Africa and Namibia roughly 4 weeks between Omicron taking off and the wave cresting.

Neither smoking nor alcohol nor cancer are contagious diseases.

Also, smoking and alcohol are beneficial or at least cost-neutral for society. Someone dying from lung cancer or liver cirrhosis at age 55 or 65 or so spares the welfare state some 15 to 25 years of social security payments, healthcare costs, nursing home costs and so on.
From a purely financial perspective, the rest of society is better off if the plebs toil until they die an early death than if they got to enjoy decades of retirement.

This might be the most cynical and disgusting thing I've ever written on PaRD, but it's the cold hard truth.

What I just meant was, they dont care about poor people. they never did so why would they care now ?
