holy fuck... if shitty excuses could fly, you'd be an international airport. you might think that embracing your massive double standards was a great defence, but it really isn't.
the people who were calling biden a 'creep' (rightfully so) and even a 'child molester' for smelling ppl's heads are not saying 'DEMS can't support him because of THEIR standards', they are (again, justifiably) pointing out his creepy his behaviour. however, and that's the massive hypocrisy i'm criticising, they also act like the objectively much worse things that trump did are somehow completely irrelevant.
that said, what you appeasingly call the 'boys will be boys' party, officially labels itself the party of 'family values' and 'christian conservatism'. the 'boys will be boys / just locker room talk' excuse is only ever made to downplay trump's (a 73 year old 'boy') disgusting behaviour - when he speaks to bible huggers, he pretends to be one of them - and you can't tell me that every republican voter is simply too stupid to see who he really is. also, a grown ass man invading teenage girls dressing rooms and making comments about dating his daughter is pretty fucking disgusting, even IF you assume a 'boys will be boys' attitude.
Oh, there certainly is hypocrisy. You're just blowing it way out of proportion.
Most Trump voters disagree with the super high standard for male-female interaction that the left is pushing for in the #metoo era, and they relish rubbing it to the left/the Dems if it happens to bite them in their own arses.
The key notion behind this imho is not "see, we're morally equal", it is a "see, you're not as far better than us as you would like to believe".
You're right on the cognitive dissonance of members of the religious right supporting Trump. But I dont blame them tbh.
They've been losing the culture war for decades, and then this guy comes along who's super charmismatic and telegenic and hits all the right tones, holds all the right views on the issues, a guy who's more vigorously pushing back against the country's leftward lurch than any conservative candidate in a generation, who shows them new and unorthodox ways of winning presidential races - but the guy's personal life is a constant and gross violation of the values they hold dear. So what are they supposed to do? Back lame RINOs like Jeb Bush or Bill Weld who get crushed in the election, to then see President Hilary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren put the final nail in the coffin of anything remotely conservative - or put up with an imperfect instrument that's serving their cause despite all of his personal shortcomings?
