I'm on my 4th failure at quitting cigarettes, but alcohol doesn't seem to have a hold on me. I can go out to a party and have quite a few, and then not drink at all for 6 months or a year.

I understand, for some that's not the case. But we really don't know if Nunberg is an alcoholic or just has a drink on the way to CNN.

He went undercover in Cyprus and Istanbul to catch Russian and Ukrainian cybercriminals around 2005. After the FBI set him up with a fake name and background, Sater posed as a money launderer to help nab the suspects for washing funds stolen from US financial institutions.
