It would be very very difficult to blockade a country as large as Japan and China doesn't have the navy to pull that off. Japan's navy is actually very advanced....many military experts say that Japan's navy is more powerful than the British navy!

Edit: If there was any threat of an invasion, it's possible that America would give the Japs some nukes to deter such an invasion.

I think people are confused on how China is and will challenge US supremacy. It's not through military means but rather economic ties. Whether it's South America, Oceania, Africa their modus operandi is to basically tie various countries economically to China. Economic ties= influence. You don't need massive military bases and billions on military infrastructure to control a foreign land nowadays, that's 20th century thinking.
