From the sources I've read, this is down to:
1) Poor maintenance. The longer you stall on the border waiting to attack, the more maintenance you need on tyres and other equipment. Looks like it wasn't done properly, which means vehicles will get stuck in mud. This has been compounded by using single roads instead of using other terrain
2) Tanks should be used in conjunction with infantry in BTGs so they can eliminate anti-tank infantry. There's a good thread on this here:
