His statement is completely inline with messaging from the beginning that Covid is typically mild in children and is just reaffirming that Omnicron is still mild in children. Omnicron has a higher R0 than previous variants, particularly among populations with low vaccination rates, which includes children. This higher R0 results in more hospitalized children having Covid. It seems like you are trying to take this statement to then imply that Covid hospitalization has been a lie from the start and there really isn't an issue with ICUs and Covid patients who are dying/suffering severe long term side effects.

Also how is Covid putting any politicians in power?
I guess political leaders in power when Covid started got boosts if they didn't completely fuck up the response. After the initial response the only politicians it'd really be putting into power would be like conservatives in Michigan where the political demographics are purple enough to have an executive that would implement public health measures, but still have enough conservatives politically aligning against said measures to flip the equilibrium toward the GOP.
