Russia has the right to self defense same as any other country. The US would not tolerate Russian missile bases in Mexico or Canada. But oh, Russia has to tolerate it like it's totally normal and not at all a security threat for their nation.

If Mexico or Canada were wavering, the US would easily have enough soft power/economic arguments to convince them to side with them over Russia/China. Russia is only in its current predicament (having to use military force to coerce its neighbors to stay within their sphere of influence) because Russia has fuck all to offer economically, diplomatically or ideologically.
