Funny thing I heard

The EU is supposed to be sanctioning and not buying Russian oil and gas products.
But an interview with CNN kind of indicate that they need to buy from Russia so that Russia will not sell it to elsewhere for a higher price so that the Russians will make more money and thus become better funded to fuel their current aggression.
Any idea?

They have to support Russia or someone else will do it for a profit which is unacceptable.

the notion you have outlined is a soundbite. it does not detract from the obvious facts but its irrelevant to my mind.

to expand on this point, the EU can not economically decouple from Russia in a day. Its a bit like Brexit. England (Russia) can go it alone now but they are going to probably suffer in the short term (10-20 years) until they re-orientate. The fact that this is news, means its a slow day for news - as all this (to me anyway) is self-evident.

Ah I understand now. My command of English have went into a downward spiral since I moved to hong kong.
I have been speaking a lot of Mandarin and Cantonese ( Mostly Cantonese ) for the past 11 Years.
I need to hangout more with those ABC, CBC, BBCs...
Basically overseas born Chinese.

That makes zero sense from a fundamental, economics point of view. If Russia could realize a higher price from a different buyer, there would be absolutely no reason for them to continue selling to Europe at the lower price.

What I'm saying is that the argument you originally referred to has no logic to it. If Russia could already find a new buyer who's paying a higher price than what the Euros are paying right now, then Russia could announce such an embargo of their own against Europe (and go with the new, richer buyer instead).

Under the premise that the Russians aren't complete imbeciles, the fact that they haven't announced such an embargo of their own proves that they do not have an alternative buyer for their oil and gas who would be paying a higher price. They might have alternative buyers who could jump in if Europe settles on an embargo against Russia, but the Russians very clearly would get a lower price from them, rather than a higher one.
