I'm not going full chicken little because Russia is losing another war.

Gee did you cheerlead for the Iraq war too? Were you there cheering as America dropped bombs on the Taliban shock and awe style? How many dead Yemenis and Syrians and Libyans did it take to scratch that itch?
At least when we were killing brown people, we weren't engaged in brinksmanship on an existential threat to ourselves and all human civilization.
Remember, anyone who doesn't support us plunging headlong into a pointless war is a coward or a traitor or both, and that goes double for nuclear war that could get us all killed.

If Russia started to actually lose the Ukraine war, that's against the interests of America and the world at large, because that's the point where Putin becomes desperate. And he could wipe out Ukraine with the push of a button. So maybe we should go back to respecting the post-WW2 Pax Atomica. Because the same people who scream "chicken" are the ones who are playing chicken, driving us right up to the cliff.

Nope, I didn't cheerlead America's invasion of Iraq, and I didn't cheerlead Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

That American citizens can't find baby formula but so many Americans want an unlimited supply of resources funneled to a European border dispute is yet another horseman of the clown world pocalypse.

Yes, you can def just swap currently existing anti-tank missiles and cash for baby formula. It's not like the issue is production capacity.

Pointless to indulge in a nonsensical comparison between Russia and Nazi Germany. I'm pretty comfortable with my principles of anti-war being reflective of Christian values. That's the problem with a lot of Catholics with many being Christian in name only, you don't understand that Christianity is intrinsic to who we are. It's not just a compartmentalized ritual to be unpacked twice a year on Christmas and Easter like you guys approach it, it's the central lens with which we view everything, including foreign policy. So while you're happy that people are fighting and dying because it ultimately weakens our enemy (pretty shitty thing to wish for as a Christian and counter dogmatic to everything Jesus taught) I rather donate money for food, shelter, transport to those people and hope for the least deaths possible.

You're not anti-war though lol.

We're not comparing Russia with Nazi Germany in this scenario though. We're applying YOUR foreign policy views to another point in history. We can avoid WW2 if you want though. What about the Revolutionary War? Should America have let the British crush the rebellion given that Canada turned out alright?

I'm actually with you on that one. We call those people "Chreasters" where I'm from. Being around Filipinos, Hispanics, Vietnamese, etc. on a weekly basis made me realize that being a minority really isn't that bad and white people just need to accept the inevitable demographic change. Having said that, we live in a secular society and the rest of the world doesn't abide by the rules of Christ. We would cease to exist if we constantly turned the other cheek. The world is a dark place and sometimes, we need to get dirty. It's better to just go to confession and ask for forgiveness.

Absolutely. I'm not a white trash heroin addict who lives paycheck to paycheck. I have the skills and the capital to be immune to such trivial things which allows me to vote for the right thing. I'll admit, if I was part of the working class vermin that you idolize, it'd likely be harder for me to do the right thing.

You realize that a massive recession will also impact you indirectly, don't you? Mass unemployment or a prolonged period of stagflation don't just mean that fellow citizens you don't give a fuck about suffer, it also means that tax revenue goes down drastically, which leads to a reduction of public spending, investment into infrastructure and research and such, or to a ballooning deficit. A huge recession makes the whole country poorer and weaker in the long run. You're on the record over the past 7 days of wanting to avoid all of these developments. And since you're obviously smart enough to realize these ramifications of a self-inflicted, huge recession, I don't actually buy your flippant claim that you would be willing to pay this price. :P :bouncy:

It sure will. However, opportunities like this are extraordinarily rare and we must strike while the iron is hot. If we all play our cards correctly, we will secure a rich and prosperous future for our great-grandchildren. We can remove Russia as a threat once and for all and then we can focus on isolating China.

You constantly fantasize about keeping the third world subservient to Europeans. Don't bitch out now.

I do? :o

Anyway... look, I would be open to the idea of energy embargos if they were actually effective at ending this war, but they are not. Germany, France, the whole EU is working day and night at reducing their dependence on Russian energy. Cutting ties with Russia will happen anyway, but delaying it for another 6-12 months (crude oil) and 12-30 months (natural gas), respectively, will spare us a ton of economic pain/wealth loss while not affecting the war in Ukraine all that much. Russia's decline is sealed anyway, they're destined to become China's bitch - and that's not just my opinion, even some Russian pundits have echoed this prediction.
