The best Putin can do for his illegitimate war:

At least 12 dead in Russian bombings on Severodonetsk. Most of the shots have affected residential buildings.

A country doesnt really always need the democracy, for their people to be free and happy.
sometimes kings, chieftains, whatever you call them, can be decent leaders too. Notable example is Singapore.
Only problem is when your king isn't decent, and you dont have easy means to change it.
So a democracy is the best, but it works only if people are educated and interested enough to keep it.

so the red cross which rarely puts out statements put out a statement saying about 1,700 POWs were taken in Mariupol by Russia
As the Ukrainian side has used a POW for a very public propagandized war crimes trial, it pretty much guarantees that the only two possible outcomes for Ukrainian POWs that were taken are either war crimes trials or prisoner exchanges;

While Ukraine said it hopes to get the soldiers back in a prisoner swap, Russian authorities have threatened to investigate some for war crimes and put them on trial, branding them “Nazis” and criminals.

Its pretty much a given that at least some of them will be put on public war crime trials since Russia has a hard-on for tit-for-tat escalation, but with 1700 of them its hard to guess what will happen.
Now that Mariupol has been secured, Russia will undoubtedly be redeploying forces to the Donbass to coordinate their assault, which is what has been predicted for weeks.

well its the same in a democracy as well - while a president may have a fixed term, leaders of political parties can last for decades and thus they further the agenda. but broadly i agree with you.

Some (odious nazi war criminals) will be convicted (a hundred, may be two), others (two or three thousands) will be exchanged for Russian PoWs. After a year or two (may be earlier) they will be exchanged when the dust settles.

Russia already deported thousands or dozens thousands of Ukrainian children, women. For sure it's easy to bomb their home then offering water, bread, and a bus...
They will probably achieve human trafficking in the process considering the corruption. I don't see which kind of silly excuse could defend that.

Looks like azov batallion neo nazis will be facing a war crime tribunal in Russia. Here's evidence of what they did to civillians trying to leave Mariupol

Human trafficking by Joseph Stalin is why there are so many ethnic Russians in Ukraine to begin with. Same in other former Soviet states.
