I don't think anyone wants to let NK be NK. The entire UN told NK to cease and desist.

I would think if it comes down to it, the US will just kill Kim Jong. That seems to me to be the solution with the least chance of problems.

Either there is an heir we don't know about and Jong Un's assassination would mean nothing or there is no heir and the resulting leadership contest could plunge the country into civil war. Either way it would strengthen the emerging heir's resolve to attack American territories. There would be no talking down NK after that.

It's a lot of potential death and destruction for no real improvement in the situation and a fair chance of worsening it. NK is not just Kim. It's a country united behind a rigid ideology. You can't break that by killing one man.
