“I think that despite the fact that the Crimea was seized with outrageous violations of all international norms, nevertheless, the realities are such that Crimea is now part of the Russian Federation,” Mr. Navalny added. “So let’s not kid ourselves. And I advise the Ukrainians not to kid themselves, either. It will remain part of Russia and will never become part of Ukraine in the foreseeable future.”

Pressed on whether he would try to return Crimea to Ukraine in the event he became Russia’s president, Mr. Navalny, who finished a strong second in the race for Moscow’s mayor last year, asked rhetorically, “What, is the Crimea a ham sandwich or something that you can take and give it back?”

Bologna sandwich, to be precise.

i know alot of ppl might flame me, but i agree with him. the only way it would be reversed would be by vote in 10+ years time.

at the moment in northern ireland the nationalists won alot of seats. at some point in my lifetime there will be a vote in northern ireland and in the republic, for northern ireland to be subsumed into the republic. the likelyhood is that the loyalists (of england, living in thhe north) are likely to resume terrorist activities around and after this event in protest.

i would envisage similar in crimea. therefore better to leave crimea as is and see what happens in 10-20 years time. in my opinion.

this also extends to ukriane as you all know my view - it would have been better for ukraine to slowly move away from russia rather that what we have seen in 2014 and since, but there you have it. (yes go ahead, flame me (@anyone).

There's no way Russia will ever give Crimea back. The peninsula has extremely high symbolic and historic value to them; there were so many battles throughout history in which Russians fought to the last soldier to defend it.

The majority of seats are still held by loyalists. Brexit has done great harm to the union but the reality is the support for the union is significantly higher than for unification. Britain should and will not let Northern Ireland go unless a majority support unification in a referendum, as per the Good Friday agreement

I dont mind revisiting this topic in 10 years, I expect alot of problems for the UK re: N Ireland and Scotland, in that (short) timeframe.

also, the majority of seats, where ? please dont say in london. also where are you reading there is more support for union in the north then for re-unification with the republic ? also finally, how can britain control what happens in the north? ehmm where are you reading all this from? alot of what you are saying does not jive with the current state of affairs (i accept this is off topic but well we used n.ireland before as a comparison so i dont mind going down that cave for a bit).

As do I, and Scotland could certainly leave, but hell will freeze over before Ulster Protestants let NI reunify, and they're the majority

I was referring to Stormont
