Keep in mind that this is with a vaccination rate of 85% for seniors and 75% for the entire adult population.
Similar trends in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands and so on and on.


Also keep in mind that the current 14% weekly growth of covid cases in the US is made up of two diverging trends, declining case numbers in the South and surges in the North. For example, look at Michigan:

My prediction: in hindsight, hoarding vaccines will turn out to be one of the best decisions of the entire Biden presidency. Trust me, in the not too distant future, your country will be happy to have them.

They're still very effective if sufficiently fresh - the problem right now is just that a waning protection against transmission, coupled with nasty seasonal effects, cause a huge surge of case numbers while too many people are still vulnerable, either because they're unvacced or because they didn't receive their booster in time.

One pushed hard on masks and vaccination while the other said "it will go away" 40 times despite experts advices on a period of 6 months or so.

On another note I keep hearing it will protect my community if I get a shot. But I don't see how if I get it with vaccine or with antibodies

I'm not boostered yet because I'm young and healthy and therefore low on the priority list. Also, I only got my second dose in late July so I'm not even eligible yet.


To your second question: first, a fresh vaccination does provide very strong protection against transmission for the first couple of months. By getting jabbed, you're taking yourself mostly out of the transmission chains for crucial months.
Second, it is true that in terms of the statistical risk of going to the ICU and clogging up limited resources in the healthcare system, the vaccination or the booster of young folks doesn't contribute all that much. Your risk of ending up on a ventilator is indeed miniscule. But it's not zero and even miniscule risk adds up when we aggregate it over tens of millions of cases.
