Don Jr: Death numbers are down to almost nothing.

There were around 1,000 COVID deaths yesterday.

It's incomprehensible to me that any reasonable person can support a political coalition made up of people who say stuff like that. It's complete madness.

What's the baseline mortality per day in America? Should be in the 8-9k range.

Yes, of course this statement is insane at face value. It is understandable in the context of the campaign though. Yes, how the Trump administration handled coronavirus was a bad mistake, and it was also a serious political blunder to attach themselves so much to a "move along, nothing to see here, everything is great"-message. But given the fact that they are dug so deep into this rhetoric and argument, there is nothing else left to do for them than to keep downplaying the virus and hoping that at least some fools buy that. It might work with some low-info voters from sun belt states where infection numbers are comparatively low at the moment.

tldr: Given where the Trump campaign stands, now coming out and admitting that "yup, shit is hitting the fan" would be far more damaging than continuing to downplay it and hoping for the best.

Yeah, it might make sense at this point, but this is been their playing the entire time.

Explaining this away with "it's politics" is completely absurd.

Yes, and like I said: it was a huge political blunder to "go all in" on a message of downplaying the virus, as opposed to a rhetoric of "yes, we must take this virus serious, but for this and that reason, we think that shutdowns are the wrong way of dealing with it" or something along those lines. Most plebs want to feel heard, protected and taken care of by their government - and this rhetoric did the exact opposite.

It’s not surprising , just 48 hours ago trump himself said cases are not going up

Blatant Lying is the new normal tbh, his underlying goal is to win the election and he sees this as the best chance approach

A quarter of the country are just that gullible, and 1 or 2 users here who immediately come to mind.

Do you expect the Trump campaign to commit political suicide just to satisfy your expectations of "seriousness and decency"?

so you still support trump and his admin given the fact that the first real test he had he failed miserably and gave up. you expect him to improve from this?

It's one of those things where they made their bed and now they have to lay in it.

They don't get a pass on dismissing the deaths now because it would be political suicide because they backed themselves in a corner leading up to this.

So yes, they should commit political suicide and acknowledge the issue.

I expect anyone in politics or on television not to call 1,000 American dying every day "almost nothing".
