The United States makes hard choices, it has a lot of responsibility. But if we're comparing degrees, it seems far more preferable to strong-arm the Solomon Islands into making the right decision than it would be to violently subjugate a more prosperous, democratic state. To that end, China won't even grace foreign nations with recognition unless they recognize China's right to violently subjugate a more prosperous, socially healthy state. Talk about intruding on the sovereignty of others.

So you agree it is ok for USA to strong arm Solomon islands

Now I am going to give you a reality check on this.
I am sure you heard about the Xinjiang situation and the Uyghur Muslims.
I know it very well since I have been there.

The West and more often than not, the United States have been going very hard on China in regards to the Human rights issue.
There are some noise from the Muslim nations of course.

But officially the governments of these said Nation have been really quiet about it.
You know why ?

Because Winnie the Pooh's country haven't been dropping bombs on these Muslim brothers and sisters and their kids, young and old for the past 40 years.

I don't know... you tell me.

Start with peasants alphabetization date. You can count since the time they have democracy running, so you know your "score".
No way, i clearly asked WHY these giant lockdowns are happening, and WHY Chinese government was keep doing them (next one is Beijing ? Wtf)
Here the press wrote several times that was "Because China want to show that its (non democratic) model is working better".
As simple as that, maybe you have another answer, maybe it's the party that doesnt want to lose its face in front of its own people, maybe it's low or bad vaccin/vaccination quality/rate
Oh wait... Maybe it's all that together.

I will tell you why.

Chinese needs to be governed, because they will run amok and turn into worst assholes if you give them democracy.
The literati and decent people are all in the big cities, there is 1.4 billion population.

If some dipshit starts to go into power in China like how it is in the United States or the West, they will trump up nationalism and patriotism because they have a crap load of scores to settle.

1. with Japan, for all the Rapes and murders they have done in world war two that has not been recognized and water down by the government, imagine Germans paying respect to Hitler and all their war crime heroes.
that is what is happening in Japan every year. The USA closed one eye on it, even the Koreans are fuming.

2. With Britain because they forced opium onto the population to subjugate them.

3. And many many more....

I know how Chinese people are like , they are not ready for that sort of democracy, and if the Tiananmen protest in China succeeded , you will be looking at a Russia No.2 maybe worst than that.

You want to know why Democracy in Hong Kong and China is not viable at the moment.
If you really want to know let me introduce you to my Ex Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his thoughts.

This was interviewed in Hong Kong in the 90s.
There are Chinese Wordings but it was spoken in English. Turn up the Volume if you may.
If you are interested in this particular topic.

he spoke about Ceylon first , which is now what we called Sri Lanka

Fast forward to 22 seconds to hear it in English

Yeah so i guess my assements on why-lockdowns-oncities were probably all part of the truth.
Then ok, i understand the distress that China has not this 60-70% of "hightly educated" required to settle a decent democracy.
Btw we start to have the problem even in europe due inequalities increase ( because of modern populism) and it's even stronger in eastern europe.

Now i am not convinced that china will ever have a democracy, even if 70% of population start to be hightly educated; because of modern authoritarianism (the one with social credit and cameras everywhere...)
Actual chinese gov is already planting the seeds of its next reign.

Because they haven't completely solved the poverty problem.
The Guinness book of records have said that China brought 700 million people out of poverty since 1980s.

Let me put it this way, I think the number is inflated and I put it at around 300 to 350 million at best.
But even at that number , it is still damn impressive, its like the entire population of the United States . :o

Those in major Tier 1 or 2 cities have access to Western Media and books , but even then Mandarin is the main form of communication, spoken , written.
LONG STORY SHORT....it is exactly like Taiwan.

If you are talking about Modern Authoritarianism , I am from Singapore, we are a Nanny State like China and we have scores of Ivy League , Oxbridge Scholars, i have loads of friends from INSEAD .
And we do have our own "Social Credit" system in the past.

I edited my post above. May have to note down that the guy in your video said colonization had some good effect.
Thanks for your points. More freedom is needed tho. Country size is also a problem due power concentration, even US is experiencing it.
Will take time to have a democratic Russia once Putin will be thanked for all his great services.
