Article says they "don't own the plantations in question", but I just frankly don't believe that lol. Corporations often create fictions where they manage the plantation, have rights to all the profits and proceeds, and don't "own it".

Corporations are not and have never been people. Corporations are a legal fiction to separate natural persons (flesh and blood humans) from consequences for the company. In many ways this is good, since it allows vital industries to operate when they otherwise couldn't, but has been massively abused in the modern world to shield owners from personal liabilities even when they are directly at fault.
