The only thing standing between the torturers from Bucza, Borodzianka, Mariupol and their potential victims are the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian National Guard and the Territorial Defense. President Macron's phone calls, appeals, Gerhard Schröder's mediations, warnings, requests and threats directed at Putin have no power to prevent crimes. The Ukrainian army prevents the crimes.
Each self-propelled howitzer, tank, infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier, each missile artillery unit delivered to Ukraine means that Russian soldiers will commit less rapes, murder and robbery, which is what they do best in this war. And of course - such things happen in every war, but not every army uses war crimes, mass rape and murder of civilians systematically as a tool to terrorize the enemy. The Russians do just that.
The thesis that it is necessary to lay down arms and then start negotiations with the Russians will make anyone who has any idea of Russia laugh, although it will be laughter through tears, who knows Russia, understands its language, reads its press and has at least an elementary idea of its history - that is, basically every Ukrainian, many inhabitants of Eastern and Central Europe, but - as it turns out - not necessarily German intellectuals or Irish Members of the European Parliament, whose arrogance towards Ukraine goes hand in hand with profound ignorance. Anyone who has any idea about Russia will answer this clearly: Russia does not negotiate with the defenseless. With the defenseless, Russia does as it pleases and whatever suits it, the only language Russia understands is the language of power, and it can only negotiate with the strong.
I am convinced that Ukraine will win, save its independence and save Europe from Russian aggression - because there are many indications that Russia's losses in this war will make its ineffective, corrupted army incapable of any offensive actions for several good years. Consistently applied, severe sanctions may prevent this potential from being rebuilt for even longer. The American secretary of defense, Llyod J. Austin III, spoke about the systemic and far-reaching plan to deprive Russia of its offensive potential after his visit to Kiyv, and the inhabitants of every country bordering Russia accept these words with hope, because there will be no strong peace in Europe, while Russia is capable of aggression.
