There is a massive brain drain away from rural and small town America, particularly ailing areas like the Midwest, toward the coasts and a select few inland hubs with a strong university or startup scene (e.g. Knoxville TN and Austin TX).

In terms of things we judge cities on, like healthcare access, educational quality, average income, access to justice, etc. etc. virtually all rural areas fail miserably. Cities are just better places to live unless you really value isolation, which most people don't

My mom and dad really value isolation. So they both still live in the country. My sister and I don't, so we don't.

The simple solution to the problems the article outlines seems to be for people to just chill out, watch the trial and wait for the facts. This solution is hundreds of years old. Yet very few people seem to realize that it's an option. Most people seem to be happy to latch onto their preferred polarized narrative.

it might not fix the problem, but it will certainly make people like you suddenly feel the "injustice" - something that decent people experience and want to see fixed when cops murder unarmed black men over and over again...

Why would I feel the injustice of a Wendy's burning down? They have some of the worst food in the country.

But in all seriousness, riots take away from the REASON the riots are happening in the first place.
