serves you right bully. using the R word should draw instant suspensions. as should calling someone a "sperg" or implying they have Asperger's.

one of my few true gripes is using that word, and it's only started recently. i used to use it as flippantly as just about anyone.

it's one of the few things that makes me believe in the concept of 'punching down' being not ok.

When I use the word around my social worker and counselor coworkers they are like come in dude. Nurses don't give a fuck and will throw it around like nothing.

I used to try to think of the most offensive thing I could think of and just say it even if I would normally find it deplorable. I still do that with my wife sometimes. When we are actually talking about a person the lingo is typically MR or DD, meaning mentally retarded or developmentally disabled.

I actually really like those people. MR adult twins tried to kill me when I was a young kid, and it took awhile to get over that, but now I can enjoy them. I do a lot if services for them, and I should be more compassionate.

agreed and yeah it’s really low class behavior but hey what can we expect from certain users here

Sometimes I just have to marinate with the rest of the bottom feeders.

I'm in touch with my dark side.

i'm sure there are people who would find a large part of my humor as beyond the pale. my avoidance of any DD or MR humor was only caused by my wife working with special ed students. otherwise i'd be bottom feeding with everyone else.

the biggest factor that turned me around was seeing how many (and i mean 50% or over) of the children in my wife's program also have MR/DD parents. realizing it is a chain just makes me sad. i'm pro freedom all the way, but i think one the human race would be well served to offer parents some tax credit or something to sterilize children with severe disabilities. hearing the stats on the % of DD/MR children that are sexually abused is disgusting.

Not to say that you are wrong, because we must all follow our own morals, but what makes your particular line more important than any other line?

mentally handicapped people, especially those who are very impaired, are incapable of defending themselves.

so if you (just as an example) said "hey man what are you trying to jew me here" to a guy at a cash register, some 300 lb bear jew behind you might set you straight. if you call someone retarded you're calling them someone incapable of change, and that group can't defend itself from the slight.

really it boils down to that for me, mentally challenged people aren't capable of defending themselves against such slights. this is all in general of course, i'm not saying mentally challenged people are some unified group of helpless people.

If shitposting was persecuted, PaRD might get 5 posts a week.

It saddens me to agree with this.

How is this distinct from making jokes about a group not present? If I make black jokes and there are no black people around to defend themselves from the jokes I'm making, is that equally wrong, or is that less wrong because if there theoretically was a black person they would theoretically be able to defend themselves, despite there not actually being one present?

Just trying to understand your perspective; I think perspectives are fascinating, but also recognize that they are nuanced, so thorough questioning is often necessary to understand.

Be the change you want to see! I certainly won't, because I am a horrible, lazy piece of shit.

So the recent hubbub in conservative circles is that Elizabeth Warren lied about the reason she departed from a teaching job in the 70's.

Looking at the last few years of daily pathological lying and weekly scandals from the president, I'm kind of amazed at this story. It's actually humorous that conservatives would pretend to care. And I think it's a preview of future stories like this in the 2020 race. Trump's such an insanely chaotic and dishonest character, the idea that I'm supposed to care about some irrelevant, convenient fibbing from Warren is kind of laughable. I imagine most Democrats and non-Trump supporting independents/Republicans feel the same way.
