Even with the recent uptick in cases in Europe, deaths have stabilised in those countries at around 10 a day, whereas the US is tracking at 1,000 a day. Adjusting for population size, that's still a factor of 20 higher coronavirus deaths.

New cases have started to decrease in the US now but the 3 week lag between a new case dying means the daily death toll probably won't change much until September when confirmed deaths will have surpassed 200k.
