Some interesting tidbit from Germany: our cases have been going up in recent weeks, and continued to go up last week and this week. However, the RKI, our federal government agency for infectious diseases (analogous to the CDC), has shown the positive rate of our tests to have stalled at 1%, which is where it also was the week before.
So for at least the past 7 days, in spite of raw case numbers continuing to go up, the spike in cases can be explained by increased testing rather than an acceleration of the underyling infection rates. This makes sense since testing was recently made mandatory for all vacationers who are returning from a country or region labeled as high risk (like, for example, the US or parts of Spain).
