I agree with Lindsey completely. I'm much closer to Trump on immigration than I am any Democrat candidate.

I pretty much despise Lindsey Graham always have always will

the bad
I have have another 3:30 of lindsey graham talking in my memory

the good
clear, focus on policy and compromise, very little bullshit in that clip

Don't have to agree entirely to appreciate politicians cutting to the chase

A lot of conservatives are with you on being closer to Trump. Democrats need to step up their border game

too much exaggeration and bullshitting not enough trying to get something done maybe this will be the start of some bi partisan progress of some sort

Agreed, Graham is advocating sane policies focused on the acual needs and challenges on the ground. This is a big step forward in an environment where both Trump and the Democratic presidential candidates have a strong electoral incentive to take on extreme positions.

while i agree Cruz isn't the guy, i just mentally asked myself "who's next after trump" and the blankness that presented itself both scared and aroused me.

I think the Republicans will find themselves in a situation like the Democrats were in 2016 if Trump goes two terms. No real talent to take over after a dynamic President (both Obama and Trump are dynamic, in different ways of course), almost having to default back to boring establishment figures

if Trump wins reelection, they'd have 5 more years for younger talent to grow into the role. what would really fuck them over is if Trump loses in 2020. in that case, there would be a big schism between establishment Republicans who interpret the Trump era as a mistake, an aberration that should be forgotten in favor of going back to Romney-McCain-GWB-esque candidates; and the Freedom Caucus and large parts of the base who argue that Trump's nationalist agenda and his overall strategy was the right way, and that he just failed because of personal weaknesses.

well yeah a loss would be more devastating, as there would be quite a schism as you mentioned. The Democrats got the benefit of finger-pointing at ‘russia’ for Hillary losing in a landslide in 2016 (ironic given a Democrat administration being in charge of providing security for/protecting the election itself) - something the Republicans cannot do

going back to Romney and Ryan and McCain establishment-type swamp creatures would and should be the end of the GOP as a feasible option for President. What, go back to campaigns ran around apologizing for your opponents middle name and attacking your own VP choice like 2008, or my personal favorite in 2012: debating the moderator instead of the President, and getting laughed off stage by Biden of all people during a debate.

even if they get 5 years to groom anyone i dont see anyone in the current crop rising to the level needed to win the Presidency, but that’s a long time from now. Rubio is a dork (not a nerd, a nerd is electable), no one likes Cruz enough (he is too skilled in the Senate anyways), jeb! is finished forever, and Pence will not get much of a boost running after Trump (Gore couldnt even win following a very popular two-term Clinton).

Plus the whole 8 years on/off is consistent since 1980 other than HW Bush.

As others mentioned i like Nikki Haley, Crenshaw is interesting but hes a Trump-lite with the memes around him. Yang and Gabbard should run as Republicans then, by 2024 they will be considered full reich-wingers

well, lets be realistic: if trump wins reelection, the Dems will almost surely win in 2024. so whoever runs for the GOP in 2024 would just be a candidate for the count anyway. and that democratic president would then be a strong favorite in 2028 if he/she/zee doesnt fuck up monumentally. so the next time the GOP would really need a strong candidate for a must-win election would be in 2032! thats an eternity from now.

Let's not foget Nikki Haley. She said that she wouldn't run in 2020, but intimated that 2024 wasn't off the books.

Would be a waste of her time to run before 2032

Doubt she will have any interest by then and doubt anyone will care by then as well

I dont have any major issues with her but wrong time wrong place and wrong alignment. Shes not a Crenshaw shes not gonna take over the shit posting to energize the hyenas down the road.

Decent candidate just nothing now or in the near future is in her favor really
