Oh yes, wanting people to take virtually zero cost steps to save lives is a "health dictatorship". I guess you would know, being German and all. How did the poem go? First they wanted me to wear a face mask and I said nothing because.... oh wait. Guess that doesn't work A $2 piece of cloth that we've all been wearing for the past 18 months with no noticeable detrimental effect is "at all costs". Put a tampon in and use your brain instead of getting all triggered.
Even if we ignore Covid, the economic and human cost of virtually eliminating the flu would vastly outweigh the desire to see people's faces. Oh wah, I don't get to see people's faces indoors. Boo hoo, this is worth the 800k hospitalizations and tens of thousands of deaths a year from the flu in just the United States, not to mention other respiratory illnesses.
This is the exact kind of attitude that holds us back as a species. The fervent refusal to see the bigger picture.
I hope you realize that the disappearance of the flu last winter was the result of the entirety of covid measures, not just masks alone. Do you have any evidence for the claim that mask-wearing alone, without social distancing or the closure of schools, stadiums, clubs and so on, would all but eliminate the flu? Or do you actually want to perpetually keep up the social distancing too?
Additionally, there is no guarantee that repeating what we did last winter will keep the flu at bay forever. The more years go by with barely anyone getting the flu, the less immunity there will be against it in the population. This means that chance that the reduction in the reproduction number of the flu achieved by mask wearing will eventually no longer be sufficient to keep it below 1.
