I still dont get what they're trying to accomplish with a platform like this. They are pouring gasoline on the one topic which is riling up Trump's base like no other, and they are actively alienating the moderate swing voters from suburbs which won them the House in 2018 and which represent their easiest path to a victory in the 2020 Presidential race.

Those voters dont want to see children separated from their parents, and they dont want to see the DACA kids be deported. But they surely dont want to see completely open borders, a blanket amnesty for everyone, coupled with socialist-style free stuff plus a short-track to citizenship, either.
And do the Democrats really think that those policies will increase the turnout or the margins with Afriican Americans in places like Michigan, North Carolina or Pennsylvania?

The only place where such an agenda, coupled with 4 more years of demographic trends working against the GOP coalition, could flip a state won by Trump in 2016 is Arizona. And even that imho is doubtful.

its not about accomplishment as much as being automatically oppisite of anything Trump does.

trump says wall is needed and immigrants were largely criminals and dangerous, they respond "no no they're all great people, we should not build a wall we should let them in".

they're playing a very low brow reactionary strategy out. be anti-trump and hope the votes fall in line.

https://medium.com/@teamwarren/a-fair-and-welcoming-immigration-system-8fff69cd674e

Elizabeth Warren published her immigration plan
In her own words:

  • Decriminalize migration and refocus enforcement on serious criminal activity.
  • Separate law enforcement from immigration enforcement to strengthen our communities.
  • Remake CBP and ICE in a way that reflects our values.
  • Create accountability for the abuse perpetrated during the Trump Era.
  • End unnecessary detention.
  • Eliminate private detention facilities.
  • Expand the executive use of parole and invest in alternatives-to-detention.
  • Establish professional, independent Article I immigration courts.
  • Eliminate expedited removal and provide due process.
  • Reject exclusionary policies based on race, religion and nationality.
  • Raise the refugee cap.
  • Affirm asylum protections.
  • Expand legal immigration.
  • Make it easier for those eligible for citizenship to naturalize.
  • Reduce the family reunification backlog.
  • Repeal the 3- and 10-year bars.
  • Provide a fair and achievable pathway to citizenship.
  • Limit the penalties considered for status determinations.
  • Create an Office of New Americans.
  • Restore and increase aid.
  • Step up efforts to address transnational crime.
  • Inform and protect those seeking refuge.

Translated thats:

  • Decriminalize illegal border crossings both forwards and retroactively
  • End all border enforcement and detention for anything short of violent criminals
  • Provide amnesty and citizenship to illegal aliens in the country now and in the future
  • Provide free healthcare and social services to illegal aliens in the US as well massive aid to their home countries
  • Greatly expand the flow of immigration into the US both through legal and illegal channels
  • Persecute and lock up current law enforcement and officials

See, I at least tell myself I've got a neutral bone or two and am willing to hear out both sides and I'd strongly consider voting Klobuchar or Hickenlooper in 2020. But if Warren gets the nomination I won't just be a hard no after this, I'll actually get up and start donating to a Trump and maybe do some volunteering or something. Never donated to anyone since Wellstone.

Barnie is far more succinct in his points

its funny seeing this border crisis being a main point for (D)s in the primary when they denied a crisis even existed

what exactly does he mean by "reinstate legal status for DACA recipients and their parents"? did those parents ever have a legal status which could be reinstated? ^_^

None of the grown ups on the Left are in this race in earnest.

Trump will get reelected. If Biden or someone palpable is running against him then Dems will do okay in the House and Senate depending on Trump's behavior leading up to the election. He is very erratic and under a lot of pressure.

2024 we will have heavyweight battle Ted Cruz vs. Sherrod Brown, and unlike last election where it was like "who do I pick they both fucking suck" these guys are both good leaders and worth a shit.

Ted Cruz will he distant enough from Trump he might not lose solely from the backlash that usually comes against the party of a president who has been two termed like McCain and Gore. Cruz effectively has not kowtowed and sold out like other party elders have...I don't like his politics but he is an impressive dude, seems honorable in the sense he is what he says he is, and his values are rooted in a good place. I think he would take care of our solders and not be a neocon, not put dudes around him like avowed satanist John Bolten lol.

Sherrod Brown I'm a huge fan of. He is probably the strongest Democrat currently and if he stepped in he would be in the top three immediately and he could skip the primary if he wanted and still compete in the race lol. He would already have so much institutional support from superdelegates it could be hard to beat him by actual people voting in primary races.

Oh, Ted Cruz is in his 40's. Conservative JFK on the way.

AOC pulls a Kamala Harris:

"I'm not saying you're sexist (because you're a woman), or that you're a racist buuuuuuuuuuuuut. why have the last 4 people i noticed you referencing all happen to be women of color? why?"

worse yet the, "knowing the media culture were in and the death threats we experience, you're putting those women of color in danger", said the woman who directly tweets at prominent people on a daily basis knowing her flock could hit them with death threats, and does.

honestly AOC might be the least self aware glasscannon ive ever seen in politics. she's literally worse than trump at shooting herself in the foot, but without the endearing stumbling through optics. its just a real life cringe compilation every time she opens that huge mouth.

Dude... I appreciate the effort you put into this post, and actually agree with Sherrod Brown being a good guy and a good candidate. But I couldnt disagree any more with the rest. Ted fucking Cruz? The guy who is so unlikable that even his image in the mirror turns away its head in disgust? The guy who nearly lost to Beto "white privilege personified" O'Rourke in Texas? The guy who even his closest colleagues on capitol hill hate? And you dont just think he'd be a strong candidate, you even call him a "conservative JFK"? No offense, but that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long long time.

while i agree Cruz isn't the guy, i just mentally asked myself "who's next after trump" and the blankness that presented itself both scared and aroused me.
