50+/800 protecting a fired police officer at his house is a good sample size.

Says nothing about the blue code of silence that was on display during the murder (the standing cop, not holding the victim down, but instead making sure his accomplices were uninterrupted).

Fired cop had a dozen+ complaints for brutality over his career, and involved in several deaths. Authorities investigated and cleared him. Coming down from on high, that reeks of complicity.

aren't those 50+ just doing their job? like should they walk off duty and just get fired? im sure 48+ of them would stay even if offered immunity to leave, but still.

im more concerned with indiscriminate pepper spraying, tear gassing the peaceful side of the protests, and the lack of accountability this guy had for years. infinitely moreso.

and still id rather see this guy in a cell than his own home with 50 cops around him.

ive seen lots of investigations into officers play out, if anything i hope thats what comes from this. an overhaul of accountability, even tho it means more govt employees, yuck.

The entire goal of having police protecting the former officer's house was to quite literally prevent a lynching.

I don't think Chauvin was in the house at the time. It's much more plausible that he was being kept somewhere safe and far away.

...while riots were going on. Would have been a far greater use of resources to have 1 cop arrest him and place him safely in jail, and the others could go be useful to the public.

We agree! I believe it was post 20 in this topic where I said he needed to be fired and arrested pending trial not only because he appeared to be guilty, but to prevent a riot. Post 75 I believe where I stated without reservation that simply firing the officers was not enough, there was going to be a riot.

Yes, the best utilization of resources, and the best action in regards to this case would have been to arrest him, or release whatever evidence exists that he wasn't guilty of a crime. Holding back the shoulder cam footage while simultaneously claiming it provided evidence of physical resistance is such a dick move.

The other bit of evidence we still lack is official cause of death. While we're all assuming it's suffocation (or a broken neck) and are probably correct, the medical examiner is refusing to even speculate until they have verified it. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/medical-examiner-issues-statement-on-death-of-george-floyd

So, as it stands, the entire thing has been handled horribly. However, that's still no excuse to allow a literal lynching.

"safely in jail" while they burn down the 3rd precinct.

Look at it this way, it'd kill two birds with one fire.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/where-does-phrase-when-looting-starts-shooting-starts-come-n1217676

Quote
The phrase was used by Miami's police chief, Walter Headley, in 1967

Miami hadn't faced "racial disturbances and looting," Headley added, because he let word filter down that "when the looting starts, the shooting starts."

coincidence on the usage of the phrase?
