thats not based in scripture
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
ok why?
Genesis 3:5
“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
King James Version (KJV)
I was making more of a generalization my bad! I don't know scripture as well as you by a long shot
And you are right about the boasting! In my youth I carried an arrogance or disdain for my own religion and was "not punished necessarily" but God made me aware of those errors which allowed me to correct myself.
Even though in my heart I knew that I had "wronged" God and basically called him a "big fat phonie" when I needed him most he was there. Total forgiveness all I had to do was admit my sins which was something I didn't take seriously.
I'll be the first to tell you all "sins" carry the same "weight" in the eyes of the Lord. I was a good kid and yet God showed me all the things that were "bad". I sort of believed "out of ignorance" of course that there were "lesser sins" and "greater sins". I made excuses and God showed me the error in my way.
I am thankful everyday for that experience.
That's why I like to hear what atheist think because I was an atheist myself(by action not creed as I was young in my teenage years where we are all fallible to making bad decisions).
