The numbers in the USA are delayed due to the way it is reported, but most early sources report a rise by about 60% in the numbers of suicides. This is approximately 30,000 people. And it is increasingly young people between 25-44.
Which is less than the number that died from covid, but this trend is likely to hold for several years, and the people that die from suicide are much younger than the people that die from covid - so the loss in life years is an order higher than the number lost from covid.
