As much as Taiwan is a hot spot, it might not escalate even in a couple of years.
But then again, Taiwan might become a second Ukraine if it does happen. And I assure you , it is not in USA interest to send troops.
The USA have been expending their weapons for the past 30 to 40 odd years and now with the Ukraine conflict which will carry on for quite a while , I dont think they can add another theater to their current proxy expeditions.
It is going to be tough on the government , and correct me if I am wrong. When Clinton won the elections , Bush Senior just ended the Iraq war victorious. A famous quote from Bill Clint " It's the economy...stupid.."
Ukraine and Taiwan as far as the people of USA is concerned is quite faraway from their land. There is no security concern in regards to invasion when it comes to the America.
What I think a lot of USA population is concern with is something that is right before their eyes, Their monthly bills. This will affect the election and who is going to be elected next.
That is just my superficial opinion.
I think the US would get involved as a matter of national security, if for no other reason than to protect TMSC, and its outsized effect on our transportation sector.
