Did you care that people died from the Flu for the last 30-40 years? Did you get your flu shot yearly and wore a mask to prevent older people to catch the flu?

I don't understand why the government didn't just take a libertarian approach.

If you simply had state governments tell people to take paid time off if they tested positive, you would have had wildly good compliance rates. The masking and social distancing had better compliance rates than Europe even before the mandates were implemented.

If certain towns had hospital usage growing dangerously closes to capacity, you selectively apply lockdowns.

The only places that were ever at risk of becoming overwhelmed were NYC and select parts of Cali.
