This isn't normal. You can still get a transplanted liver if you drink, it depends on much more factors. Most places will just use their logic and see if you are an alcoholic that is purposely destroying himself and make a choice according to that. During the last year you have been trained to hate and blame the people that doesn't want to be part of an experiment. Some exceptions exist but very few and far between
Covid19 is known to hit your liver and many patients have lingering liver deficits , furthermore covid19 affects transplant patients (liver/kidney especially) significantly more severely than the average person.
Unfortunately you can’t always help people help themselves but with liver transplants when criteria is already stringent, this should come with zero surprise.
