Your picture above is inaccurate.

That's NOT the way physics works. An up and down trajectory is a lot easier than a more horizontal one.
The more horizontal trajectory has a lot more atmosphere to deal with, than a more vertical trajectory.

It's almost like we can account for that using some very basic Newtonian equations.

You're also making it reaaaaally hard to believe you ever did a degree in physics.

Well maybe YOU can account for such things, but the rest of the world has a bit more difficulty with that. :/

If we're talking just how far it will fly, the only variables you need is the density of the atmosphere and cross-section of the missile.

This is literally a topic covered in your very first physics class, and "the rest of the world" can launch missiles around the globe reliably.

So, once again, you don't know what you are talking about.

If that helps you sleep at night...then you can believe that.

Physics isn't open to popular opinion...it's pure math.

Here's a tiny example for you...

You fire a projectile in space it will travel forever. You try that in an atmosphere...it won't.
If you need further explanation, I would suggest some research on your part.

You do realize that drag from air resistance is a physics I level subject right?

I realize that you totally dodged what I said in post #524. :/

check out at wich altitudes air density start to be negligible.

im accepting your excuses.

I actually directly responded to it. We can predict trajectories within an atmosphere pretty easily. By understanding how far some force will send an object straight up you can easily determine how far it will fly if you change the angle to 45 degrees, even if both are within an atmosphere.

Do you folks actually LOOK at the things you post?

A missile on a vertical trajectory only needs thrust for the upward leg.
A missile on a horizontal trajectory needs thrust the whole time. (granted much less thrust on the way down, but still needs thrust.).

How you folk can assume that a 2800km trip equivocates to a 7000km trip (in a more restrictive environment) is beyond me. :/

That's why when I throw my baseball when it stops accelerating in the vertical direction it loses all horizontal momentum.

Makes sense.
