I don't think he is being taken " hostage" by Nazi underlings.
He is being actively cajoled to join Nato by UK and USA.
That was what triggered Putin.
He was thinking that if anything happens USA might just send troops into Ukraine.

Just because Donetsk center isn't totally bombed out means little. But it's only because Ukraine Army hasn't penetrated the front lines that it hasn't been destroyed completely.

Just feel bad for you honestly. Most Ukrainians live in a state of delusions, aren't given info on how the war is going unless said info is bad for Russia. So one sided constantly.

Hostage was metaphoric speaking but as you say, his underlings are his bosses. There is no such thing as choosing freely but on one side nazi oligarchs force him to join on the other side he would like to join but remain friends with the russians and on the other side Russia wants him not to join NATO they let him join EU though.

I feel very sorry for him. But so far he have shown some iron in him, judging from the media and his interviews.

If the ship was sunk by accident, which I don't believe it was, I can imagine a tweet like the quoted being sent. A tweet expecting 'revenge attacks' really tells you nothing.
