Half of US population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, official says

(CNN)Half of the US population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, White House Data Director Dr. Cyrus Shahpar said Friday.

More than 821,000 doses had been reported administered over the previous day's total, including about 555,000 people who got their first shot, Shahpar said in a tweet.
"50% of Americans (all ages) are now fully vaccinated. Keep going!" he tweeted.

As of Thursday morning, the CDC had said, 49.9% of the US population was fully vaccinated. The fully vaccinated percentage out of the population eligible for the vaccine -- 12 and older -- was 58.4%.

Sad that the US fell behind so much despite starting its inoculation campaign much earlier than most other countries.

Japan has a very vaccine-reluctant culture. Iiirc, there were several instances of vaccine campaigns going badly with side effects during the 80s and 90s, so large swaths of their population don't just trust a new vaccine and need a lot of convincing.
And unlike the US or Europe, they don't have a lot of production sites and thus little leverage. Also, since they had the virus under control with mild countermeasures for the longest time, there was little urgency. It's the same trap Australia fell into.

The olympics without fans were depressing.

Some (lucky) countries are starting to stagnate at 60-65 but some others at 45-50 only.
The only way to boost it was to push for some mandatory pass, worked very well in France.
A very good point for Macron, total win, now we have 55% 2 shots & 66% 1 shot at least.

Because people are lazy and even stupid: if they don't catch that virus directly in their own fucking nose they keep the denial, they ignore it, they dont want to believe it. And they support each others.
Ofc they totally don't care about victims and the only risk that matters is their own. Some are also doing that simply to show that "they don't trust the system". Okay, but here it's a mistake IMO.

For US the bright red states vs blue ones disparity is really fascinating.
