Ukraine already topped the ADL100 reports prior to the war and we were inundated with media reports about how Nazis had a foothold in Ukraine and were openly recruiting and so widespread they controlled parts of the government. All that reporting has to be brushed over as inconvenient now.

The key distinction is to what extent, meaning 1) how many are there relative to the population size; and 2) how much power do they hold politically

On point 1), we know from membership of groups like Azov that there isn't many of them. Across all neo-nazi groups in Ukraine, there are under 20,000 members, relative to a population of 40 million

Regarding point 2), neo-nazi groups only receive 2-3% of the popular vote despite Ukraine being at war since 2014 which generally increases ultranationalism, so they are not a political force in Ukraine

If Nazis like the Azov battalion were actually a small fringe in Ukraine, they wouldn't have such an outsized representation in Ukrainian military posts and social media and reports of troop actions, and the government would just disavow them rather than take the geopolitical liability. Pretty much all the outlets reporting on them from 2021 and prior were pointing out how they were mainstream to the point of controlling local governments. Then we have to do this ridiculous tapdance around the inconvenient facts now that we're funneling them weapons to fight the Russians, so I get to watch the same redditors who spent years talking about how they want to punch nazis in the face, now cheering posts by the Azov battalion openly bragging about war crimes like torturing and executing POWs. Posts from the pro-Ukrainian side, not some psy-op by Russian disinformation. I believe the wackos when they post it themselves.

Anyone who paid even the slightest bit of attention to the Syrian War shouldn't be surprised in the least. We propped up radicalized sunni militias to fight Assad in a sectarian war. We had Hillary Clinton harping on about 'moderate pro-democracy groups' while the ISIS, al qaeda and other regressive fundamentalist extremists we were sending anti-tank missiles to, were lopping the heads off children and screaming allahu akbhar. And we couldn't cover it up because they were bragging about it on social media and posting videos of it. That's the thing about groups like ISIS and the Azov Battalion and other extremists, they are true believers, they aren't ashamed or playing coy. You want to know who a Nazi is, you see who's waving a Nazi flag, because they want to let you know who they are so badly some of them tattoo swastikas to their forehead. Well Ukraine has no shortage of them.

Is there any other overtly nazi standing military force anywhere on the planet? I don't want to give a free pass to serbia or whatever
