I'm just giving my lived experience. I grew up rural and almost everybody was poor, white, and a massive dick.
Now I live in a city, and I live around a lot of poor black people, and they're incredibly nice. I've yet to have a bad interaction with anybody, even for the first 9 months when I was taking public transportation..
When I first moved to the midwest, in an area where everyone was poor, I couldn't believe it. Everyone was so friendly. Like, everyone was glad to meet me. And I'm... Uh... Not false. But I'm very positive, as a defensive mechanism, yes? But it was genuine. "Hey! New feller! Welcome!" Not just from "whites" but from every race. It was... Disconcerting.
I would argue that if you go rural, everyone is more welcoming. Because new people are more rare.
Then again, what do I know? I've only lived in a dozen states, city and rural and everything in between.
I think you're young, honestly. You'd do well to gain more experience. I've been in the minority, majority, and part of the "hated group". But I've never had disposable income. Be poor for a hot second. You'll find a new world opening up to you, Thor.
