Volunteers? Why would you lie about that?
The orcs have always had mandatory military service and they even talk about increasing conscription numbers to meet the needs of their war against the world of men.
I am very much down the middle, which annoys everyone. on that basis:
Russia maintains a dual system of military recruitment: mandatory conscription and voluntary contract service. Every year, men between the ages of 18 and 30 are legally required to serve 12 months of conscription. Around 120,000–150,000 conscripts are drafted each spring and autumn. Officially, conscripts are not supposed to be deployed abroad, but investigations have shown some ended up in Ukraine, sometimes against government claims. Many conscripts are pressured to convert their mandatory service into contract service to fill front-line needs.
Alongside conscription, Russia relies on voluntary contracts to sustain its war in Ukraine. These contracts come with large signing bonuses—from about $5,000 up to $30,000+ depending on region—and monthly salaries of $2,200–2,400, far above the national average. Perks include preferential mortgages, tax breaks, family benefits, and pensions. However, reports show that wages are often delayed, underpaid, or withheld altogether.
In practice, conscription provides a pool of manpower, while contract service supplies the bulk of fighting troops. The mandatory system ensures a steady flow of young men into the army, but the Kremlin leans heavily on cash incentives and promises to turn them into professional soldiers willing to fight abroad.
