Broadly there is no real update. The war rages on. more advances in technology. more posturing, more money spent, more weapons discussed, a couple of suggestions with regards to sending troops but really, we have to wait and see. roll on 2026.

Russia is allegedly amassing 110k troops for a major summer offensive on Pokrovsk. If true, that is a noteworthy development. Due to being a transportation hub, taking Pokrovsk would be a big win for Russia.

My own view is that such a force is simply not sufficient to radically change the war. my post above was one of the few posts i made in this topic of late, highlighting the conflict is expected to continue to drag on.

Yes, I understood that and agree with your general assessment. I just wanted to mention that the key development of recent days suggests that the war is not dying down or grinding to a halt, even if we can safely assume that it will drag on for the time being. ;)

Its like a game of chess between two equally rated players. Its the middle of the game, or even late game, and neither side has any idea what to do, other then play by rote.
no expectations of a stunning victory or defeat.
no expectations of a variable or escalation.

Any news on the peace deal negotiations?

Or will this conflict just be stuck where it is now for years, with no official ending?

The reality is that the US would need to signal its intent not to continue its proxy war by ceasing all weapons transfers to Ukraine. Until that happens peace negotiations are pretty much irrelevant. If the US gave up on this adventure then the next question is, what will the EU do - will it continue to fund Ukraine? (the likelyhood is yes) and therefore again, peace negotiations are pretty much irrelevant.

All you have to do is look at the Western Blocks rapidly expanding military to accept this reality.

Why do you think that meaningful peace ""negotiations"" would only take place once Ukraine is cut off from all funding and military support and thus defenseless against Russia? In reality, the only thing that would remain to negotiate at that point would be the terms and conditions of Ukraine's surrender.

Why do you write negotiations with quotemarks? And why do you frame admitting objective reality as “surrender”?

Ukraine can do what Iran did just now - declare themselves as winners and fade away back into obscurity off mainstream media radars.
