Sergei Shalaev (Sergey Shalayev) is a 46 year old who served multiple times on the front lines as a senior lieutenant and was wounded numerous times, then deserted. Ganul had kidnapped and pressganged Shalaev's son who died after 3 months, and Shalaev was killing him in revenge. The UA court removed all reporters from the trial and did not make public his motive, and only statement was they were investigating a theory of "Russian trace" even though the guy is a seasoned UAF veteran with an obvious motive.

Of course he isn't going to get a fair, public trial.
