Why would it ruin them if an actual center leftist wins?
... I guess since it's you, PaRD's resident far-lefty, what you mean with "actual center leftist" are types like Sanders/Warren?!
Forgive me my confusion, for everyone else, myself included, "center left" means folks like Beto/Harris/Gillibrand...
Elizabeth Warren is center-left. Bernie might be leftish. Neither why these people are talking about nationalizing industries for public good. They are reformers, not revolutionary in the slightest.
Consider Bernie Sanders the Ron Paul of the Dems lol. He is out there but within the safe confines of their ideology. Far left in America has meant treating blacks and gays as equals and Bernie has been on this for quite some time already when other candidates are late to the party. But this is social left. Their idea of redistribution is raising taxes not reorganizing society or changing the status quo.
Democratic party is centrist. Both parties are overall. Dems are more rational and GOP traditional IMO is the big difference. The differing performance has more to do with skill levels of leaders and their communities.
We can say Bernie is left, now, but his platform wouldn't have been left in many previous elections. His focus is on working class Americans, and careing about workers is anti capitalist and maybe you consider that being left. As left as unions and rural electricity I guess.
