Parents are upset because their children are being taught to segregate themselves by race and conceptualize interactions with their fellow man in terms of in-group and out-groups along strict racial, ethnic, and gendered lines. The thought leaders behind this movement are either discredited journalists, dangerous extremists, or corporate charlatans peddling unscientific and unfalsifiable doctrines which assert that you either exist as an admitted racist or a closeted racist, with no alternative or in-between.

Your average parent is more concerned with their children's advanced placement classes getting cancelled, math and science courses which downplay objectivity, and history and civics replaced by historically debunked curriculum. It is the premise that any difference in outcome must be the result of active discrimination. Teaching children to identify into in-groups and out-groups based on race is disgusting and psychologically damaging behavior. Treating people differently according to their racial characteristics is illegal, and for good reason. But that's not a side effect of what's happening, the thought leaders themselves will tell you proudly that it is the point.
