Conspiring? Both Russia and EU were very openly trying to push Ukraine their way.

The only conspiracy here is the claim that the EU / USA would be so stupid to give guns & power to a random Nazi fringe group they found in a shop with extremist groups.

Oh they do exist. There are also Nazi extremists in Russia, Poland and Germany. Why don't we talk about them some more.

There were. There was a massive clampdown on nationalist movements (Tesak et al) and most of the violent ones ran away to Ukraine around 2011-2013. Whatever remains of the Russian far right has no real power, they do not have a political party or any sway over military / leadership unlike in Ukraine. There will always be a minority that sympathizes with far right ideas. Usually those are clamped down on and kept in very hard check by security apparatus of their respective countries. In Ukraine - Nazis tell the president what to do and chief commander Zaluzhny openly takes selfies with Bandera portrait and Red/Black nazi flag and posts it on Facebook.

"On 22 January 2010, Viktor Yushchenko, the then president of Ukraine, awarded Bandera the posthumous title of Hero of Ukraine, which was widely condemned."

Ukrainians seem to be generally divided on the topic of Bandera.

This, however, tells me that the situation in Ukraine is really bad if they must draw on Azov resources to be able to continue fighting. This seems very similar to the arming of Taliban in Afghanistan.

Bandera stuff is extremely controversial and Polish hate him as well because he cleansed Western Ukraine of Polish( Volhyn Massacre etc). Ukraine will need to officially apologize and pay reparations to victims before they can join EU as Poland will block it otherwise.

And yes situation is pretty desperate and US & EU are literally arming “Taliban/Alqaeda to fight the Russkies”. This will echo over the next decade as all of these guns & unscrupulous opportunists will be used in EU assassinations. It’s harder to smuggle a set of guns out of Ukraine and into the United States, so our Ameribros are relatively safe from the fallout of this war. There is much less of the Nazi stuff within regular ZSU forces as normal folks just want to defend their country / avenge loved ones and glue on edgy meme patches instead of Black Sun / Wolfsangel.

This war would’ve been a MUCH harder sell for Putin to Russians internally if not for freaking Swastika people openly meeting with John McCain and Lindsey Graham et al.

Domestic Russian propaganda needs to do no extra work - simply find a Black Sun / Wolfsangel / Swastika Ukranian riding a Leopard in Kursk and Russians line up to volunteer to kick them out. After all many Russians still consider Ukranians their “brothers and sisters” and find the whole necessity of this war difficult to internalize. However fight against Nazism is considered Sacred Duty of Every Russian as Russia has a cult of World War 2 Victory Over Nazism.

.

As a matter of fact Ukraine was part of the USSR, Russia's strategically important neighbor and of course in Russia's sphere of influence.

Everyone has repeatedly pointed you to the fact that the West has been actively involved in Ukraine for a very long time trying to pry the country away from Russia's sphere of influence and that's the reason Ukraine is being armed (including certain far right groups, the US had laws in place to prevent that these groups were being armed FYI because they were considered too dangerous).

Nobody here claimed they just gave weapons to a random group or whatever you're claiming right now.

Its 21:00 in kyiv and no bombardment has begun yet. Of course, this could easily be a case of 'russia isn't doing it yet because the us said they would'
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan have all closed their embassies and advised citizens to leave Ukraine entirely
And yet, the US embassy has now announced they will return to operations normally tomorrow morning
Don't see a way in which big public announcements like this work in anyone's favor in a war where Russia is watching you

Isn’t it obvious what’s happening? The neocons are trying to goad Russia in some heavy handed response. It’s easy to sell further “support” and pressure if the optics are large parts of Kyiv or whatever other civilian center in flames with corpses laying around. These strikes although annoy Russia and forces them to back off certain valuable assets will have a very limited impact. They aren’t going after targets that would even marginally impact some of the south Donetsk gains. Hitting weapons cache in Bryansk or w.e.has very muted impact.

It’s escalation for the sake of escalation and throwing a monkey wrench in peace negotiations, no wonder it was authorized right on the cusp of some potential deescalation on horizon.

Russia plan was leaked!
Eastern Ukraine goes directly to Russia.
Central Ukraine (kyiv etc) gets occupied by Russian troops as a Russia vassal state, while retaining puppet government.
Western Ukraine is unknown for Russian at this point, most probably Russia will offer some land to Russia friendly Hungary
