Russia will have to deal with PTSD veterans for decades after this war is finished. PTSD is no joke and casualty rate long-run trumps war-time losses. People get desensitized to violence and are unable to adjust to civilian life. Russian social system will have to be modernized to provide for an influx of FPV-traumatized trigger happy returnees.

This pales though in comparison with Deschênes Commission that hid literal jew murdering nazi war criminals and allowed them to run rampant firebombing socialists (https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-ottawa-citizen-ukrainian-hall-bombin/132498005/) and physicaly exterminating those perceived to have sympathies with the Soviet Union. Those folks had no PTSD and straight up wanted to join Nazi Germans to murder those peskyuntermenschen. Remember that Hynka veteran applauded in Canadian parliament? Apparently he was an avid shitposter on historical forums and described 1941 to 1943 as the happiest years of his life (he exterminated all of his jewish neighbours).

Yes its heavy price Russia must pay again for joining terrorist nuclear alliances with likes of Iran, North Korea. Same as before when pay very heavy price for ask Hitler to be part of fascist axis in end and invade Poland, massacring/force deport people there. Russia never learn from history mistake, then rage nobody like Russia.

What do you mean with "paying the heavy price again". PTSD is not new. Russians had Afghan and Chechen campaign returnees, US had Kuwait/Iraq/Afghan veterans. Europe had Yugoslavia war PTSD'd militaries.

Perhaps they did not teach history well in Lviv, but it was Ukraine that joined Hitler and became part of the fascist axis. Communists were literally far left and were mortal enemies of every fascist as well as every fundamentalist (hence Ayatollah was released from his captivity in France / US puppet state of Iraq after Iran revolution displaced Shah - to make sure Iran turns to fundamentalism instead of socialism).

This below was quite an insightful video about history of Iran and what caused them to make the decisions that they did so far.

I'm sure you are aware that if Ukraine ever wants to join the European Union it will have to remove discrimination laws and make amends for Volhyn and other massacres committed by Waffen SS Galicia Nazis and OUN/ UPA . Polish would NEVER allow whatever remains of Ukraine to join without atoning for actions of Bandera and his cronies.

I would describe it differently.

It's not that they love being miserable - its that stoicism is considered a prime virtue and suffering is not to be avoided, but carried with you as a badge of honour. Ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders. A small, but important nuance.

???

You must not know 250,000 ethnic russian served nazi Germany?

read tho: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboration_in_the_German-occupied_Soviet_Union

The second type of mass collaboration was the formation of indigenous security formations (majority ethnic Russian) running into hundreds of thousands and possibly more than 1 million (250,000 volunteers in the East Legions alone).

:

Among the approximately one million foreign volunteers and conscripts who served in the Wehrmacht during World War II were ethnic Belgians, Czechs, Dutch, Finns, Danes, French, Hungarians, Norwegians, Poles,[1] Portuguese, Swedes,[2] Swiss along with people from Great Britain, Ireland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Balkans.[3] At least 47,000 Spaniards served in the Blue Division.[4]

Many Soviet citizens (Russians and other non-Russian ethnic minorities) joined the Wehrmacht forces as Hiwis (or Hilfswillige).[5] The Ukrainian collaborationist forces were composed of an estimated number of 180,000 volunteers serving with units scattered all over Europe.[6] Russian émigrés and defectors from the Soviet Union formed the Russian Liberation Army or fought as Hilfswillige within German units of the Wehrmacht primarily on the Eastern Front.[7] Non-Russians from the Soviet Union formed the Ostlegionen (literally "Eastern Legions"). The East Legions comprized a total of 175,000 personnel.[8] These units were all commanded by General Ernst August Köstring (1876−1953).[9] A lower estimate for the total number of foreign volunteers that served in the entire German armed forces (including the Waffen SS) is 350,000.[10]

Talking about Russian collaboration with the nazis, after operation
Barbarossa, is silly. D-day was an impossibility without the eastern front and you can thank Russians for that.

This wikipedia quote refers to an amazing source from RAND Corporation, dated 1982, very fun reading to be honest.

PS: This Alex Alexiev really wrote good stuff, RIP.

Trump and Putin have entered dialogue over Ukraine, WaPo reports. One might say it’s the beginning of peace process. But Trump is in for a bumpy ride. Not to mention Ukraine.

Trump and Putin discussed possible end to war in Ukraine — The Washington Post

WSJ writes that Trump expressed concern about the costs of supporting Ukraine for US taxpayers and suggested that the world might demand that Ukraine cede some territory: for example, Crimea.

The presidents "discussed the possibility of achieving peace on the European continent as quickly as possible." Trump made it clear that he would support a deal in which Russia would retain some of the territory it controls .

Ukrainian officials "have long understood that Trump would engage with Putin on a diplomatic solution for Ukraine," the sources said.
