There is ample evidence in the US, from US operatives, which is freely available online and which was posted in this thread previously, that urged their government not to touch Ukraine, as it was the brightest of red lines for Russia. You are entitled to your own views, and to this point, I am not disagreeing with your two points, but they do not in fact disprove what I outlined.
