It is widely documented that Israel committed (and continues to commit) the wholesale ethnic cleansing via forced displacement (or murder), of non-jewish people from Greater Israel (inc. the West Bank). Even as Israel was carpet bombing Gaza, it continued to look the other way while Palestinians were forced from their lands in the West Bank by jewish settlers, aided and abetted by Israeli security forces. This is not a sudden development, but it has exponentially increased since the terrorist attack last year. At the same time it is widely reported that Israel continues (for years) to imprison Palestinians in great numbers and there are several articles about the humans rights abuses against men, women and children, i.e. rape, torture, etc. Thats not even talking about collective punishment which Israel also does. While your comments re: whataboutism may be true, whataboutism has no place in a political forum. The fact remains that the Western world continues to support Israel, who have indiscriminately bombed Gaza into the stone age.
Now we come to it: The West supported Ukraine for 8 years while it bombed its own people with Cluster munitions. Zelensky was also interviewed (prior to the breakout of war) where he made no bones about it, he wanted to forcefully move the people of Eastern Ukraine OUT of Ukraine. This is also ethnic cleansing. The fact that that western media is reluctant to comment on this does not change the fact that it happened.
Russia has been slow to carpet bomb Ukraine, presumable due to shared history and a reluctance to go full Israel on Ukrainians. Nevertheless, as the West continues to push the envelope re: attacks on Russia direct, Russia (who do not want to surrender) is forced down a narrow path of reciprocal action (ever its go-to). Ultimately for Russia to win the war they would need to topple the Ukrainian government, which means taking Kyiv at the very least. That is not happening this year or next year. What IS expected to happen is more and heightened / increased whole sale slaughter, and yes, the bombing of more and more civilian targets in the misguided notion that this would break Ukraine's resolve (unlikely).
