Ya, those numbers are hella sus but I'm sure if it's repeated enough times, gullible Westerners will believe it.

That's more of a function of wishful thinking. The NAFO crowd can't point to the battlefield as an area of success for Ukraine, with Russia slowly moving across eastern and southern fronts, so then the next best thing is to have these herculean loss porn figures, that are mostly unconfirmed. They then feed this confirmation bias with drone footage of deaths, as if these are all encompassing, and much of the time can't even be confirmed when/where it took place. Or they'll point to western sources, which just parrot these loss figures, so it's a circle of disinformation.

Yep, massive cope.

I wonder how the West is going to get out of the hole they dug for themselves when it becomes clear that Western intervention was in vain, Ukraine is left in ruins and the real Ukrainian casualty numbers are finally presented.

Update from Ukraine MOD, nice propaganda

The same Ukrainian MOD that claims that nearly all Russian missiles (including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles) were shot out of the sky but somehow, mysteriously, nearly the entire non-nuclear power infrastructure of Ukraine was wiped out. Weird

Better jump in your own golf cart, cya

The loss figures will most likely be a state secret IMO. Incumbent party would never want those numbers to be released.

For every one person in Ukraine that goes to war, there's probably 10 leaving the country at the same time. I keep saying this, I live in a medium sized US city and go to a Slavic church sometimes. Literally every other week they announce a new family that came from Ukraine and wants to join the church. I have family members that are truckers/live in other states and they say it's literally like this all across the US, NY, Carolinas, Portland, California, everywhere. The bigger problem for Ukraine is, the longer this war goes on, the higher the probability that most of these people never come back. Once you get your kids into schools you get jobs, a home, car, etc. people settle. Why would a Ukrainian family living in the cushy west go back to the hardship of a bombed out and impoverished country that will struggle economically probably for a decade after this? What's the incentive?

So then the human capital is depleted severely. The country's young, able & educated is being depleted at alarming rates. Even if lets say Ukraine's losses on the battlefield end up being 1million, the real problem would be you lost 1/3 of your population (upwards of 15 million), with kids, elderly and other dependents now making up a much bigger pie of the population. Who's your tax base?

We couldn't even get accurate numbers on the death toll of Hurricane Maria because biased researchers went out of their way to conflate population displacement with death toll. We'll probably never know how many people died in the Ukraine war nor how many fled Ukraine, but we'll probably have a pretty good idea of those numbers combined in a few years as their population shrinks.

Agreed, it's a huge problem for Ukraine. They've already tried to convince countries in the EU to send back Ukrainian refugees (to no avail)

This happened already with the Balkans. Folks from Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia that left in the 1990s never returned.

When I was in New York last summer we had a great dinner at a steakhouse downtown that is run by two Albanian brothers. If immigrants succeed in the west they will never return back to their bombed out shitholes. The west never rebuilt eg Serbia or Albania once they’ve “liberated” them from whoever was the bad guy back then.

I think Ukraine is toast whichever way this goes.

If Russia wins - the rump state of Bandera has nothing to sell to Europe except their pretty women. There was never any industry in the east and majority of agri / natural resources are in the west of Ukraine which are being taken away village by village as we speak.

If Russia loses - Ukraine ends up right in the middle of another Balkan war that can go on for decades with no end in sight.

Months back, Ukraine used to pester Russia's Belgorod region with random raids. Most of this wasn't really intended to cause any sort of military objective but really force Russia to dedicate some troops to defend and generally pester Russian population in a 'see we can do it to you too' way. Mostly though it was a low hanging way to get some sort of positive publicity. The uno-reverse card got played in recent months though by the Russians. First with them pushing into northern Kharkov forcing Ukraine to dedicate a significant number of troops to defend Vovchansk and now they're crossing the border into some Sumy villages. The point of this IMO is not that they're looking to possibly annex some of these sparsely defended border regions but rather force Ukraine to deploy troops they really don't have in reserves to defend, while detracting from the actual fronts in the south and east.

Reports are coming in that Russian forces entered the Border villages of Zhuravka and Veselivka in Sumy Oblast.

Will update under this post if anything comes of it.
