https://www.kyivpost.com/post/30317Le Monde published an opinion article by Pierre Schill, the French chief of army staff, titled “The French army is ready”, claiming that France “has the capacity to commit one division, i.e. around 20,000 men, to a coalition within 30 days.”
French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said: “It is not for Russia to tell us how we should help Ukraine in the coming months or years. It is not for Russia to organize how we deploy our actions, or to set red lines. So we decide it among us.”
=> I really hope they move all and bring tons of freedom and democracy on Putin's russia, but I have some doubt it will be fast enough
On the other hand this kind of behaviour can clearly help in boosting the military assistance to Ukraine.
As I understand it in last joint exercise involving Nato Troops there were 90,000 men deployed.
https://shape.nato.int/stde24/newsroom/news-/nato-marks-the-start-of-exercise-steadfast-defender-2024This is the order of magnitude required. 20,000 men are not enough. It may be that France is shopping around for more support. If Nato members start sending troops to Ukraine it will be a clear escalation. I am not convinced that Russia will directly attack those countries, but as soon as we see sorties from the likes of Poland etc, then we are in WW3 territory.
