I think Goom has a point that had this been a Republican politician, MSM would've picked it up as fast as they could've. The comparison between Trump and a Congresswoman is silly, but the point still has merit.

Although the hypocrisy is there, I'm still not sure what would've happened had this been a Republican woman. The text messages aren't verifiable unless you have the source, the pictures are somewhat but you don't want to just publish them without a story behind it. It's more like the MSM were justifiably cautious, even though they wouldn't have been if it were a Republican(particularly a man).

Sure, because Republicans spend their every waking hour telling people not to have sex out of wedlock, not to have gay sex, not to be gay or bisexual, not to have bisexual sex threesomes, and generally intruding on the lives of others. Democrats on the other hand are generally accepting of people beign who they are and having sex how they want to these days. One is a non story, the other calls out mass hypocrisy.

I think they should have put out something to the effect of "this is an evolving story, here's the accusations and the reasons", but the fact that they didn't isn't the travesty that the drama queens are trying to make it out to be.

In a world where we get the entire media sphere ablaze over a report of someone's uncle's roommate's cousin overhearing a conversation at a bar by an unnamed source familiar with the matter, I don't think they can really excuse it to much with the text messages being unverified. I mean, its true, they can't 100% confirm the authenticity of the texts and photos until Rep. Hill comments like she did- but the evidence was so overwhelming and implausible to fake that it would be like 99.999% confirmation. And at a minimum, responsible media could have just laid out what the allegations and evidence were without stating it as fact.

Its pretty telling that the media did finally start covering the story, but only from the narrative of "Rep. Hill denies allegations of..." If you were an unaware person who just stumbled across the story on CNN today, you might think you missed the story earlier this week.

anyway, the meat of the allegation boils down to an otherwise consensual affair with a staffer, which if everyone was reasonable and evenhanded would just result in a formal ethics rebuke, slap on the wrist and let her go back to her career. Not something to even lose committee seats over in my opinion, but as a vulnerable first term swing state democrat who has already betrayed her moderate campaign platform, she deserves the political fallout at the polls. The only insanity will come if democrats really do try to push forward with the narrative of 'muh revenge porn' and insist on shooting the messenger. Its going to be a sign of the times if the woman who cheated on her husband can have him arrested for leaking the pictures proving she cheated on him. It would say that someone's implicit sexual privacy is enforceable by criminal law, but a spouse's explicit marriage vows are not.

sounds like the rep had a drinking problem and campaign staff was concerned over her alcoholism after she started staying out late drinking, being drunk in public and missed her flights multiple times and was being abusive towards her husband. She was apparently mixing her anti-depressants with alcohol which is a lot more serious than just a drinking problem
