The first round of the presidential election France is taking place today. Incumbent Macron is a Bloomberg/Economist-style corporate liberal who has done fuck all for the little people throughout his term and was continually losing ground in the polls to far-right challenger Marine Le Pen who adopted a significantly more leftist economic policy platform than him and keeps hammering him on inflation. With these food stamps, he's transparently trying to bribe his electorate in the leadup to the runoff against (presumably) Le Pen which will take place in two weeks.

This election has great significance for all of Europe and even the Ukraine/Russia war since Le Pen used to be a lot more friendly to Russia than Macron and is also a lot more sceptical of the EU and NATO. Le Pen ousting Macron due to frustration about surging cost of living would be a gigantic substantive and also symbolic victory for Putin. It would basically show that when push comes to shove, the common people in the West are not willing to pay the economic price of the sanctions on top of the already very high post-pandemic inflation.

how much of their gdp does nato spend on military compared with russia? one would think that after being owned that hard you'd carefully consider what ridiculous "argument" you'd want to pivot to, but you simply can't help yourself, huh?

yes, the relationship between countries is more complicated than those between neighbours, however, the main point is valid: it is NOT russia's right to determine ukraine's political course, it's exclusively the right of the ukrainian citizens. if they want to join nato, russia gets no say in it. you're american, right (everything else would be a huge shock considering the hilarious confidence you display your ignorance with)? what fundamental policy decisions should the mexican president be allowed to make for the US? imagine they got fed up with the decadent american life-style, your unhealthy, sugary shit food, and your shallow plastic-culture - do they have the right to invade their neighbouring states to achieve that? it's preposterous and you know it. the only reason you're arguing this is because you're brainwashed with cultural war propaganda and think that the murderous dictator pootin is on your "side" just because he's also a racist, islamophobic, homophobic piece of human garbage. your "logic" that it's up to the "stronger" country to determine what their neighbours do is EXACTLY why nato exists, you're making my argument for me there. if you're against war, you're in favour of nato "expansion". but no, you're trying to have your cake and eat it...

lets try something crude:

yes, the relationship between countries is more complicated than those between neighbours, however, the main point is valid: it is not AMERICA's right to determine CUBA's political course, it's exclusively the right of CUBA. if they want to ALLEY WITH RUSSIA, AMERICA gets no say in it.

Saying Russia has no right to determine Ukraine political course has the same principal as America has no right to determine Cuba's political course. Yes, neither have the right to do so, but they still do it anyway as they are too close and pose a threat.

/inbefore but Cuba is not a democracy.

look at you, making a perfectly valid point without giving in to the urge to insult me. congratulations. you're 100% right, it is indeed NOT the US' right to determine cuba's political course. it is exclusively the cuban people's right. i could not agree more.

see my edit and to clarify, but they still do it anyway as they are too close and pose a true or perceived threat.

Look I get that you dont like people that provide a different viewpoint, say, the russian viewpoint, but if you tell them all to STFU then there is no one left to disagree with, and if you have no one left to disagree with your not being questioned, and everyone needs to be questioned every now and then in order to challenge underlying assumptions and positions.

America is able to leave Cuba in the trash via sanctions on the world stage so it does.
Russi is not able to leave Ukraine in the trash via sanctions on the world stage so it does something worse.

Actually it's you who proves my point right there. No country is obliged to suck up and swallow your "progressive" woke propaganda. The Russians believing in their culture and heritage means more power to them. I haven't seen any race riots (peaceful protests lololol) or purple haired woke scum trying to take over every aspect of life in Russia so Russia is doing pretty well in that respect ;)

I would actually side with fender on this point. people should be allowed to protest. they are not allowed to in russia, which to my mind is a problem. they are allowed to in the west, which has advanced various ideologies. I accept that some of those ideologies are questionable but that is seperate and distinct from being allowed to voice a view in community / protests.

remember im not taking sides, and the only reason i am jumping on fender outside of this post is because he is purposely trying to silence opposing views in the thread. Even fender will sometimes have valid points.

Do not try to compare cuba missiles crisis with ukraine joining nato, only a late stage deep idiot would support you in the process. The threat difference is simply "no match".

Agreed. Freedom of speech is of paramount importance. Simping for an authoritarian regime just because it happens to crack down on the people or ideas that you dislike is a stupid, unprincipled and ultimately self-defeating stance.
