It's not about statistics. In a country this large there will be tons of accidents and wrongdoing by law enforcement. People are going to die and that's understandable. We give these people power to enforce the law. Power that WE don't have. Because of this, they need to be held to an EXTREMELY high standard. If you can be fired from McDonalds for forgetting to put on your hairnet, you should be able to be fired if you violate someone's civil rights.

The issue with this case at least is you have to demonstrate he fucked up in the first place.

Did he follow his training and procedures? If yes he didn't fuck up even if it resulted in death.

Abolish police unions. Create a STRONG barrier between law enforcement and the justice system. Force cops to have liability insurance with their home, retirement, etc. as collateral. I'm not talking strictly about police shootings either. Any time a cop enters the wrong home, arrests the wrong suspect, etc. should have consequences.

You're being too harsh here, though. We pay these people peanuts to go risk their lives in the most violent communities and then get surprised when the quality of candidate is not what we expect. We have ourselves to blame for unrealistic expectations given the amount of our money we're willing to throw at this. At the same time, mistakes will happen and we need to be able to distinguish between negligence and mistakes.



Didn't manly Manning's leaks prove otherwise? We just have very good information on police fuck-ups.
